Multicolored Fitted Mittens


Abbreviations- ch (chain), sc (single crochet), sl st (slip stitch), hdc (half double crochet), htr (half triple crochet), st (stitch), sts (stitches), dc dec (double crochet decrease), blps (back loops), sk (skip), F/O (finish off)

Crochet Hook Size- G

Finished Measurements- 11 inches from bottom of cuff to tip of main body. Roughly 4 inches wide when not worn. Thumb should be about 2 ½ inches long from main body.
Materials needed- Any kind of Medium Weight (size 4) or Bulky Weight (size 5) Yarn, Scissors, Yarn needle.
Yarn used: Ella rae "Classic Heathers". Dark green, green, purple, red and orange. 

Cuff
Using dark green, Ch11. Sc in 2nd ch from hk and across. You should have 10 sc in row.
Ch1 at beg of each row.
R1: In blps only, sc across (10)
Repeat R1 until cuff measures 5 ½ inches from foundation chain.

Sl st in blps of current row and the unworked loop in the foundation chain to attach two sides. If you’re going to make the cuff and main body different colors, then change to green in last sl st of cuff.

Main body
Ch 1 and hdc 24 sts evenly into the cuff/wrist and join with a sl st at the beg ch 1. You should have 24 sts in the round.
Ch 1 at beg of each row and sl st in ch 1 at end of each row. Change colors every four rows (not including starting row). 
R1: 2 hdc in next st. Hdc next 10 sts. 2 hdc in next two sts. Hdc to last st. 2 hdc in next st. (28)
R2 and every even row: Hdc to end.
R3: 2 hdc in next st. Hdc to last st. 2 hdc in next st. (30)
(change to purple after R4)
R5: 2 hdc in next st. Hdc in next 4 sts. (Htr in two rows below next st. Hdc next 3 sts). Rep twice more. Hdc to last st. 2 hdc in next st. (32) 
R7: 2 hdc in next st. Hdc to last st. 2 hdc in next st. (34)
(change to red after R8)
R9: 2 hdc in next st. Hdc in next 7 sts. (Htr 2 rows below next st. Hdc next 3 sts). Rep once more. Hdc to last st. 2 hdc in next st. (36)
R10: Hdc to end. (36)

Thumb
Reminder: Ch 1 at beg of each row and sl st in ch 1 at end of each row.
R1: Hdc next 2 sts. 2 hdc in next st. Sk next 26 sts. 2 hdc in next st. Hdc to end. (12)
R2: Hdc to end (12)
(change to orange)
R3-6: Hdc to end. (12)

F/O. Cut yarn and weave yarn end through remaining sts and pull closed.

Returning to Main Body
Join with red yarn through the 4th and 5th hdc post of thumb. (these are the closest two sts of thumb to the main body where the fingers will be).
Reminder: Ch 1 at beg of each row and sl st in ch 1 at end of each row.
R1: 2 hdc in next 2 sts. Hdc to last two sts. 2 hdc in next 2 sts. (30)
R2: Hdc to end (30)
(change to orange)
R3: Hdc next 4 sts. (Htr two rows below next st. Hdc next 3 sts). Rep twice more. Hdc to end. (30)
R4-6: Hdc to end (30)
(change to green)
R7: Hdc next 5 sts. (Htr two rows below next st. Hdc next 3 sts). Rep once more. Hdc to end. (30)
R8: Hdc to end. (30)
Decreasing Rounds
R9: hdc next 15 sts. Dc dec twice. Hdc to last 4 sts. Dc dec twice. (26)
R10: hdc next 13 sts. Dc dec twice. Hdc to last 4 sts. Dc dec twice. (22)
(change to purple)
R11: hdc next st. (Htr two rows below next st. Hdc next 3 sts). Rep once more. Htr two rows below next st. Dc dec twice. Hdc to last 4 sts. Dc dec twice. (18)
R12: hdc next 9 sts. Dc dec twice. Hdc to last 4 sts. Dc dec twice. (14)

F/O. Cut yarn and weave yarn end through remaining sts and pull closed.

Weave in all ends and now you have your right mitten complete. To make your left mitten, make one more right mitten and flip it inside out. Then you’ll have a pair of perfectly matched mittens.
